Good thing #735 about living around the corner from your parents

by Marylin on October 27, 2009

I live in Scotland. It’s Autumn. You know what that means, right? Rain. Lots and lots of rain! It’s been pouring with rain for the past 3 days, and with that, it usually means getting soaked on the twice-daily trip to nursery with Zack. Not anymore though – Dad to the rescue! He has taken Zack to and from nursery over the past couple of days (without me asking) and oh my it’s nice to not have to keep a constant eye on the time when he does that!

Today Max and I played for our first hour of alone-time. I tired him out, and he was really in need of a nap. Rather than worry about whether it was worth putting him down for a nap just to wake him up again, I could let him have his blankie and his dummie and sleep to his heart’s content. I got to tidy up a bit and then just chill out watching day-time tv without having to clock-watch and count down my little bit of me time disappearing. It was BLISS.

I could definitely get used to this – particularly on days of really harsh weather (yeah, hello! Scotland, middle of winter? NOT fun!).

I swear he was trying to call me Mum today… Mummmm mummmummmm was his wording though… over and over again. He hasn’t said it since though, so I can’t be sure, but it’s a start, right? We were watching Something Special (a kids tv program that has makaton sign language in it) and oh my word he enjoyed that! He was definitely trying to say Yes! Yes! during the right parts, so it seems he may be getting somewhere as it is.

Babysteps, right?
